Julia Cort

JULIA CORT, Co-Executive Producer, NOVA 2019-present. (she/her/hers) Julia Cort, together with Co-EP Chris Schmidt, oversees the long-running PBS science series NOVA and is committed to making inclusive science documentaries that are accessible to all and promote equity in science.  During her time at the series, Julia has contributed to more than one hundred NOVA films and miniseries, covering everything from quantum mechanics to genetic engineering to climate change. She has developed and overseen some of NOVA’s most acclaimed specials and mini-series, including Polar Extremes, NOVA Wonders, Black Hole ApocalypsePoisoned Water, and Decoding COVID-19. Julia also oversees NOVA’s digital-first video productions, including the PBS Terra YouTube series Antarctic Extremes. In her quest to make complex science engaging for all, Julia has traveled deep underground to investigate the hunt for dark matter and waded into leech-infested swamps. Her work has been honored with the George Foster Peabody Award, the National Academies Keck Communication Award, the AAAS Science Journalism Award, the American Institute of Physics Science Writing Award, the Alfred I. duPont-Columbia Award and the News & Documentary Emmy.
